Crude oil inventories fell by 4.4 million barrels last week, according to the data released by the US Department of Energy on Wednesday.
Gasoline inventories fell by 1.4 million while distillates increased by 0.3 million.
Last week, crude oil imports fell by an average rate of 271,000 barrels per day.
